12-hr Bangla bandh on Oct 9

KOLKATA: Trinamool Congress has halved the duration of its scheduled Bangla Bandh on October 9 to 12 hours instead of a full day.

Party leader Ajit Panja told newspersons on Wednesday the bandh would be observed from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m on October 9 in protest against police atrocities on their leader Mamata Banerjee at Singur on September 25.

Mr Panja said “due to Ramzanas and other festivals in West Bengal, we have decided to reduce the bandh hours.” The Left Front chairman and CPIM politburo member Biman Bose had earlier urged the Trinamool Congress leadership to withdraw the bandh in view of the recent floods in 16 districts of West Bengal.
