12 fresh dengue cases in Delhi, total climbs to 1,106
Civic authorities say the disease can be contained only after mid-Dec.
With the dip in temperature, the number of dengue cases reported in a day has been declining over the past few days. The per day figure ranged from seven to 13 in the last seven days compared to around 20 to 25 cases earlier.
"With 12 fresh positive cases of dengue, the total has reached 1,106," Municipal Health Officer, MCD, N K Yadav told PTI.
He said the number of cases has been declining with the dip in mercury. "However, we expect that reports of cases will come till mid-December," Yadav said.
During the last week, the temperature in the city was mostly oscillating between eight and 25 degrees Celsius. The minimum temperature was 11.7 degree Celsius today while yesterday, the low was 9.3 degree Celsius.
The dengue virus is most active in relatively warmer and humid weather with temperatures ranging between 16 and 30 degrees Celsius.
The cases of the disease were negligible from June to September this year, but surged drastically since mid-October due to the late arrival of monsoon.
Two confirmed dengue deaths have been reported from the city so far.
