11th five year plan will be India's education plan: PM
Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Friday termed the 11th five year plan as "India's educational plan" and said over 19 per cent of the total central gross budgetary support would be spend on the sector during the plan period.

PANAJI: Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Friday termed the 11th five year plan as "India's educational plan" and said over 19 per cent of the total central gross budgetary support would be spend on the sector during the plan period.
"We have increased the outlay on education from 7.7 per cent of the total central gross budgetary support in the 10th five year plan to over 19 per cent in the 11th plan," he said addressing the 20th convocation ceremony of Goa University.
"The actual outlays have been raised five-fold. This is an unprecedented increase in allocation for education in the history of our country," he said.
Goa Governor and Chancellor of the university, S C Jamir and Chief Minister Digamber Kamat were also present on the occasion.
The university today bestowed D Lit on noted playback singer Lata Mangeshkar and atomic energy scientist Anil Kakodkar, both having their roots in Goa.
Addressing the convocation, the Prime Minister said the 11th five year plan presents a comprehensive strategy for strengthening the education sector covering all segments of the education pyramid.
"It is through universal literacy, access to education and knowledge-based agricultural and industrial development that India must henceforth march ahead to join the front ranks of the great nations of the world," he added.
The PM said the challenge before us is to ensure that everyone has an access to education and skill building in their chosen field of activity.
