11 militants killed in Manipur and Assam

In a major counter insurgency offensive at least 11 militants were killed in different incidents in the insurgency prone Northeastern states of Manipur and Assam on Thursday by security forces.

GUWAHATI: In a major counter insurgency offensive at least 11 militants were killed in different incidents in the insurgency prone Northeastern states of Manipur and Assam on Thursday by security forces.

In the Assam three militants belonging to the anti talk fraction of National Democratic Front of Boroland (NDFB) were killed.

In Manipur Assam Rifles jawans gunned down at least nine militants in two different encounters. Sources in Assam rifles said that the incident took place in at late night on Wednesday. Six militants were killed in Sajik Tampak area bordering Myanmar, One M-16 and AK-56 rifles, a revolver and some hand grenades and large numbers of bullets were recovered. The slain militants are suspected to be cadres of People's Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak (PREPAK).

Sources added prior to Sajik Tampak encounter jawans encountered at Waithou area in Thoubal district. The militants belonged to militant outfit Kangleipak Communist Party (Nongthon group). Extortion note was also recovered.

Meanwhile AKRSU s general secretary Pradip Roy said that the till government agreed to a discussion on this demand, the fast would continue.
