10,000 voters increased in Bijwasan constituency: AAP's complaint to poll panel
NEW DELHI: Aam Aadmi Party has written to the chief electoral officer (CEO) of Delhi complaining about massive discrepancies in the electoral role in the Bijwasan assembly constituency.

The party's Lok Sabha candidate from south Delhi, Col Devinder Sehrawat, alleged that voters in Bijwasan village have increased by over 10,000 since the last election and seven new booths have been added in the area.

"We had informed the election commission about this in October, just before the assembly elections. Despite this, the electoral roll was not updated. In April, the matter was highlighted once again and the election commission promised to look into it, but two months later, no action has been taken," said Sehrawat.

Delhi CEO Vijay Dev said directions have been given to all deputy commissioners concerned to revise electoral rolls in their areas.

"It is a regular exercise and each DC is getting electoral rolls examined. Delhi has done quite well in this regard and in the last Lok Sabha elections, we did not receive a single complaint about rolls. There are comparatively less issues in our lists compared to other states," he said.

However, Sehrawat insists that hundreds of bogus voters continue to exist in the electoral roll. "We took the case of Ram, a very common name.

When we searched for people with this name on the election commission's website, about 50 duplicate voters showed up. This was a random search and if someone were to go into the details, several more will be found," said Sehrawat.

The party says they have identified 7,532 bogus voters in Bijwasan constituency. A random survey has also thrown up 287 cases where residents and registered voters of Haryana are also registered in Bijwasan.

The party also claims to have found relatives of an elected representative registered in Haryana and also registered in Delhi.

Sehrawat has submitted details of such cases, along with booth numbers and voter identification cards, to the EC.

"I have requested an inquiry by an external agency to scrutinize documents submitted with voter ID card applications to identify bogus voters. In fact, responsibility of officials involved in allotting these cards should also be fixed." said Sehrawat.
