10 cops injured in stone pelting by anti-quarry drive in Bihar

As many as 10 policemen were injured in stone pelting allegedly by locals during an anti-quarry drive in Gopi Bigaha village of Bihar's Rohtas district, police said.

SASARAM: As many as 10 policemen were today injured in stone pelting allegedly by locals during an anti-quarry drive in Gopi Bigaha village of Bihar's Rohtas district, police said today.

The incident took place when the team of police personnel went to the spot to carry out anti-quarry drive in the region, the Superintendent of Police (SP) Shivdeep Lande said.

Ten policemen, including Sasaram police station in-charge Krishna Prasad, were injured as villagers started pelting stones on the officials, he said.

The quarry mafia also threatened to put women and children in front of crusher machines in an effort to stop the drive, he said.

The police destroyed 42 such machines and arrested four protesters, Lande said.

The injured policemen were discharged after first-aid by the doctors at a government hospital here, he said.

The SP said that the anti-quarry drive will be continued in future as well.
