Breaking news live updates: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday said commercial semiconductor production would be the focus of this year’s SEMICON India, inaugurated in New Delhi. Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw outlined four priorities under SEMICON 2.0: chip design, machines and materials, semiconductor manufacturing across technologies, and advanced packaging, including a 3D packaging unit in Odisha.

“This year the conversation at SEMICON India is going to be around commercial production,” Modi said.
The event comes as India seeks to expand its semiconductor ecosystem beyond manufacturing facilities to include chip design, equipment, materials and advanced packaging.
Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw outlined four pillars of SEMICON 2.0, the government’s next phase of semiconductor development, with chip design, manufacturing capabilities and advanced packaging among the priorities.

An encounter broke out between security forces and terrorists during an ongoing anti-terror operation in a forested area of Udhampur district of Jammu and Kashmir on Thursday, officials said.
A joint search operation by the Army, police and CRPF was launched in the remote Bratel Soan and Khubban areas of Majalta around 9 pm on Wednesday following information about the movement of suspected terrorists, the officials said.
They said a few rounds of firing and blasts, reportedly carried out by the security forces while targeting a suspected hideout, were heard in the forest shortly after the operation began.
However, the area remained largely quiet through the night before the lull ended on Thursday morning, when the terrorists opened heavy fire in an attempt to break the cordon, the officials said.
