SEMICON India 2026 Live News updates: India’s semiconductor push is gaining traction as global industry players point to growing confidence in the country’s policies, commercial production and startup ecosystem on the second day of SEMICON India 2026.
ASML Executive Vice President Wayne Allen said Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s presence at the event had provided strong support to the industry and helped attract talent and companies to India.
“I think there's a lot of energy here. I think the fact that we had Prime Minister Modi here gives a lot of support and attracts talent and the industry here to see that this is a priority for India,” Allen said on Friday.
He said ASML had seen “a lot of progress” over the past year under Semiconductor 2.0, pointing to policies introduced by Modi and his team.
“So we're quite encouraged by that,” Allen said while speaking about India-Netherlands cooperation in semiconductors.
From policy to commercial production
Ashok Chandak, CEO and President of IESA and SEMI India, said the first phase of India’s semiconductor programme had helped the country establish credibility with the global industry.
“With SEMICON 1.0, the first phase, we have achieved great credibility. And in a single line, if I have to tell you, it is that we have gained the currency of trust,” Chandak said.
He said India had demonstrated that it could move beyond announcing policies and signing memorandums of understanding to actually executing semiconductor projects.
“Five projects are already in commercial production. The projects are operational; they are finding a good market worldwide, and they are able to produce quality chips and export in the market,” Chandak said.

The government has removed arrest and imprisonment as a prescribed way of recovering unpaid income tax, while tightening the checks on valuers and tax practitioners who work with the department. The changes, notified by the Central Board of Direct Taxes on Thursday, mean that recovery proceedings will continue to rely on measures such as attaching and selling a defaulter’s property or appointing a receiver, rather than arrest and detention. The change has been made in the new tax rules through amendments to Rule 225, although it does not by itself remove any separate power of arrest that may exist elsewhere in the Income-tax Act.
The notification also puts greater scrutiny on valuers, requiring them to disclose their qualifications, professional history and valuation work.
