Nepal Flash Floods live news updates: The confirmed death toll from the devastating flash floods in Nepal has risen to 469, while nearly 1,000 people remain missing in Nepal and neighbouring Tibet after a glacier collapse unleashed a huge torrent of rock, ice, mud and debris through Himalayan river systems.
Rescue teams using heavy machinery, helicopters and sniffer dogs are searching through mud and debris in the worst-hit areas, although hopes of finding survivors are fading. Authorities are simultaneously working to contain the risk of another major disaster, with rising water bodies threatening to breach debris and dammed sections of rivers.
Of those reported missing, at least 540 are foreigners, with China reporting 558 people missing in Gyirong County, including 260 foreign nationals. Three deaths have so far been confirmed on the Chinese side.
Nepal's disaster management authority has warned that a lake formed after debris blocked the Bhotekoshi River is continuing to rise and could burst.
Across the border, China has warned that around 3 million cubic metres of water—roughly equivalent to 1,200 Olympic-sized swimming pools—is expected to flow into an already dammed lake over the next three days.
Chinese state media, citing the water resources ministry, said there is a high risk the lake could breach, with peak flow expected around September 1.
"The volume of water is continuing to increase, and so is the risk," Zhu Jinfeng, a researcher at the ministry's hydrology department, told state broadcaster CCTV.
In Nepal, helicopters have been deployed to search for survivors and deliver emergency supplies to thousands of people cut off in towns and valleys. Emergency workers have also recovered dozens of bodies swept into the plains by the floodwaters.
Dibga Tamang was among the last people rescued from the badly affected town of Rasuwa on Thursday. He was airlifted with three others to an army camp in Nuwakot.
"All of our people have gone. They are dead," Tamang said. "I have no one left waiting for me. Everything and everyone is gone. The end."
The floods destroyed power stations, roads and bridges along a route connecting Kathmandu with Lhasa in Tibet, an area popular with trekkers and pilgrims.

Telangana govt trying to trace 22 people unaccounted for after Nepal floods
The Telangana government is trying to trace 22 people from the state whose whereabouts remain unknown after flash floods in Nepal.
The helpline set up at Telangana Bhavan in New Delhi has received 80-100 calls from family members and others seeking information and assistance since it was established on August 26.
After preliminary scrutiny and verification of the information received, 20 cases involving 23 people have been identified for further action and coordination. Of the 23, six are from Telangana, and 17 are Telangana-origin non-resident Indians, a release said.
