The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has retained a red alert for Mumbai on Monday, along with Raigad, Ratnagiri, Palghar, Nashik and the ghat regions of Pune district, warning of continued heavy rainfall and hazardous weather conditions. IMD scientist Bikram Singh said the red alert will remain in force on Tuesday as well, although Mumbai's warning level is likely to be downgraded as rainfall activity is expected to gradually ease. Even so, he said, moderate rainfall is likely to continue over the city.
Apart from rain, the IMD has flagged strong winds as a major concern. He urged residents, particularly those living in vulnerable structures, to remain cautious until weather conditions improve.
