Asian Games 2026 Live News Updates: Elavenil Valarivan secured silver in the women’s 10m air rifle final, taking India’s medal tally to 2 at the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games in Japan.

Nagoya: India secured a silver medal in the women’s 10m air rifle team event at the Asian Games in Nagoya on Sunday, with Elavenil Valarivan, Sonam Maskar and Vidarsa K Vinod finishing runners-up. On the same day, the Indian women’s hockey team began its campaign with a 19-0 win over Uzbekistan.

The three-member shooting team competed in the women’s 10m air rifle team event at the Aichi-Nagoya Games, adding to India’s medal tally on the second day of competition. Valarivan, Maskar and Vinod were also entered in the individual 10m air rifle event.

India’s women’s hockey team produced a dominant performance in its opening Pool B match against Uzbekistan, winning 19-0. The match was played at the Gifu Prefectural Green Stadium, with India beginning its Asian Games campaign on a winning note.

Rishabh Das qualifies for 100m backstroke final

India's Rishabh Das produced an impressive show by qualifying for the final after finishing fifth overall in the men's 100m backstroke heats at the Asian Games, here on Sunday.

Rishabh clocked 54.85 seconds, finishing 0.63 seconds behind second-placed Japanese swimmer Hidekazu Takehara and 2.22 seconds behind the heat leader, China's Asian record holder Xu Jiayu (52.63s).

The other Indian in the fray, Utkarsh Patil, finished 12th with a time of 56.19 seconds and missed out on the top-tier qualification. Rishabh will now feature in the final on Monday.

Meanwhile, India witnessed disappointing results in the men's 100m freestyle heats where Benediction Beniston finished 12th with a time of 50.25 seconds, while Akash Mani finished a lowly 23rd, clocking 50.85 seconds.

Fire damages Mata Vaishno Devi helipad terminal in J-K's Reasi, no casualties

A fire partially damaged a helipad terminal in Katra, the base camp for the pilgrims visiting Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine atop Trukuta hills in Reasi district of Jammu and Kashmir, early Sunday, officials said.

No casualties have been reported.

The fire broke out in the helipad terminal at 3.15 am apparently due to a short circuit and was controlled within 30 minutes by the joint efforts of staff, security personnel and fire and emergency services personnel, the officials said.

The terminal, which is an important transit point for pilgrims visiting the shrine, was closed at the time of the incident, the officials said.

They said some computers at the ticket counter and a coffee shop were reduced to ashes in the fire.

The extent of the damage is being assessed, the officials said.
