WHO Director-General lauds India's impressive health gains, particularly in maternal and child health and the fight against noncommunicable diseases
WHO Director-General Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus met Union Health Minister JP Nadda and congratulated him on the country’s impressive health gains, particularly in maternal and child health and the fight against noncommunicable diseases.
In his tweet, Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus wrote, "...Through 160,000 Ayushman Arogya Mandirs, India is bringing screening for hypertension, diabetes and common cancers closer to communities, with referral pathways for care. India’s ASHA workers are another powerful example of health care reaching people where they are, supporting mothers and children from conception through adolescence. Together with expanded immunization and the rise in institutional deliveries from 78% to 93%, this is contributing to sustained declines in maternal and child mortality. We also discussed India’s determined efforts to end TB, strengthen regulation of medical products, and its important support for WHO, including on traditional medicine and the ongoing negotiations on the Pathogen Access and Benefit Sharing system of the WHO Pandemic Agreement."

Gujarat accident: 15 workers rescued after a metal slab collapsed at site under construction
Fifteen workers were rescued after a metal slab collapsed at site under construction in the Kudasan area of Gandhinagar on Wednesday night, Gujarat Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghavi told reporters.
He said 12 of the rescued workers were admitted to Gandhinagar Civil Hospital, while three others who did not suffer major injuries were discharged.
"According to the report received just five minutes ago from the Gandhinagar Civil Hospital Superintendent, all 12 individuals currently hospitalised are safe, and none are in critical condition," he said at the accident site.
