TMC supremo Mamata Banerjee attacks BJP over Netaji, student protests; says Bengal turned into ‘mega prison’
Former West Bengal chief minister and Trinamool Congress supremo Mamata Banerjee launched a fresh attack on the BJP, accusing the party of insulting Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose, intimidating political opponents and suppressing those protesting against alleged examination irregularities.
In a Facebook Live address, Banerjee said an insult to Netaji was an insult to the entire country. She also alleged that young people who had protested against examination irregularities were branded “anti-national”, tortured and that their families were threatened.
Targeting the BJP over its political activities in West Bengal, Banerjee claimed that thousands of TMC workers had been jailed and alleged that the state had been turned into a “mega prison”. She further alleged that TMC MPs and MLAs were being threatened, with police telling them to either join the BJP or face imprisonment.

We don't understand why the Prime Minister and the Home Minister do not come to the Parliament... The opposition has been demanding only a statement from the Home Minister. So many things happened in the capital city, with police being accused of using heinous methods in crashing the students. We just wanted to have a statement from the Home Minister as to what has actually happened and the steps he has taken... Now the by-election in Bankipur has given a decisive message to the government. You cannot take the people for granted... The shift that has happened... A message has been given to the BJP. We hope that they will read the message
