Deeply pained by the extremely tragic incident involving the pilgrims who lost their lives in a fire at a hotel in Tarapith; Birbhum district. The guests staying at the hotel had come to the Temple town of Tarapith to offer prayers on the last Monday of the holy month of Shravan. Words cannot adequately express the grief I feel for the families who have lost their loved ones. Our Police administration acted swiftly and managed to rescue a substantial number of people, but despite all efforts, the tragic loss of 8 lives could not be avoided. The Superintendent of Police (SP), District Magistrate (DM), local MLA Shri Dhruba Saha, and Minister of State (MOS) for the Fire Department Shri Koushik Chowdhury are currently present on-site. They are closely supervising the operations and coordinating with the Government of Meghalaya and the local administration of Alipurduar to ensure that the families of the affected and the deceased receive all necessary support during this difficult hour. The State Government has taken strict measures to find out the root cause of this tragedy. Let me assure you that those responsible will not be spared and they will be strictly punished as per law. Also appropriate compensation for the victims will be announced in due time. My thoughts and prayers are with the bereaved families. Om Shanti
