Zwigato Box office collection: Kapil Sharma's social drama struggling to deliver

‘Zwigato’, which released on March 17, is struggling to deliver on Box Office despite rave reviews.

The film, directed by Nandita Das and starring Shahana Goswami, competed with the pan-Indian film Kabzaa and Rani Mukherjee’s social drama Mrs. Chatterjee vs. Norway at the box office. While fans and critics praised the slice-of-life drama that focuses on a world where the food delivery agents’ survival is contingent not on their hard work but on the revelry of the customers, the same did not translate into box office collection.

According to trade reports, Nandita Das’s directorial venture earned only 30 lakh on Day 7, bringing the film’s total collection to approximately Rs 3.53 crores. However, with positive word of mouth, the film is expected to grow over the weekend.


The story of movie Zwigato is set in Bhubaneshwar and revolves around Manas (Kapil Sharma) and his wife Pratima (Shahana Goswami) and how they keep their body and soul together to survive the financial crisis. The film is Nandita Das’ thoughtful take on the gig economy, depicting the plight of a migrant couple in the post-Covid era.

The drama is about an ex-factory floor manager who loses his job due to the pandemic. Later, he gets a job as a food delivery rider, where he must deal with the world of ratings and rewards.

Meanwhile, Kapil Sharma previously stated that he related to the story of ‘Zwigato’ because of his personal experience. Sharma stated that he wants to present aspects of his personality other than his funny bones through Nandita Das’ direction.
