Zimbabwe’s travelling supporters, known for their drums, horns, and coordinated chants, have become one of the defining features of the ongoing ICC Men’s T20 World Cup. Their presence has turned neutral venues into vibrant pockets of Harare-on-tour, energising the Chevrons as the team exceeded expectations in the group stage across Sri Lanka.

As the tournament moves to India for the Super 8s, fan leaders say many may not be able to follow the team due to financial limitations. After funding their own travel and accommodation throughout the group stage, the supporters have appealed for external support to ensure prominent fans can attend matches in India.

Paul Mungofa, leader of the Brass Band fan group, urged local businesses to provide assistance. “I urge local businessmen to support our team, just like they do for football. Let’s ferry prominent supporters to the games and create an electrifying environment for our boys,” he said, as reported by NewsDay.

For Mungofa, supporting the team is more than creating noise; it is about belief, identity, and ensuring Zimbabwe’s presence is felt in a tournament dominated by home crowds. “Our Brass Band and Castle Corner supporters can make a huge difference - let’s make some noise and bring it home,” he said. “We owe it to our ancestors, who’ve carried the colours of the national team jerseys, to make a mark.”

The commitment of Zimbabwean fans has been considerable. “We’ve been to every game, every venue,” said Malvin Kwaramba, chief fan representative. “We’ve celebrated with the team, and we’ve cried with them. They’re like family now.”

The team has acknowledged the fans’ efforts. Captain Sikandar Raza said, “They’ve done it out of their own pockets, travelling thousands of miles to support us. We’re grateful for their passion.”

Fan leaders stress the importance of maintaining Zimbabwean presence in India to ensure the team does not feel it has left its most influential supporters behind in Sri Lanka. Even if many cannot attend, they say the group stage has already created lasting memories. “We may be leaving Sri Lanka, but our spirits remain high, buoyed by the knowledge that we have been part of something special,” Kwaramba said.

Another supporter, Godwin Mamhiyo, summed up the experience: “We came, we saw, we conquered. We have had the best time, and we are so proud of you (team).”
