Today, Bengaluru will witness a peculiar celestial event known as 'Zero shadow day'. This phenomenon allows people in the city to experience moments without their shadows. 'Zero shadow days' occur twice a year in Bengaluru – around April 24/25 and August 18. The timing for this unique event today is set between 12.17 pm and 12.23 pm local time, lasting for approximately six minutes.

The reason behind 'Zero shadow days' lies in the Sun's position. The Astronomical Society of India explains that due to the Earth's axial tilt of 23.5 degrees, the Sun never directly aligns above us. This alignment causes shadows to almost disappear during 'zero shadow days', making it a rare visual treat. Cities like Chennai and Mangaluru, situated on the same latitude, also experience similar phenomena on this date but at different times.

This captivating occurrence not only offers an intriguing sight for Bengalureans but also highlights the complexities of the Earth's celestial movements. So, today, take a moment to witness this natural wonder and enjoy the brief period without your shadow.
