YouTube, one of the world’s largest online video-sharing platforms, saw massive disruptions today as users were met with the message, “Something went wrong. Try again.” . Most of the reported problems appeared to be linked to the YouTube app, though some users also flagged issues with the website. Complaints were also raised about YouTube TV, with Downdetector recording over 7,000 reports at the time of writing. The outage was reported in India too, which was restored after a few hours.

YouTube has not yet issued a statement regarding the disruption, and the cause of the outage remains unclear. There are nearly 300,000 reports on DownDetector and growing, with a large spike for both Google and YouTube TV on the outage tracker as well.

Something went wrong
When users are trying to access YouTube, they are getting an error message 'Something is Wrong'. YouTube TV had 8,923 issue reports on the website, while Google had 2,694. Google did not immediately respond to a Reuters request for comment, reported Reuters. Users on X said the site and app showed error messages and failed to load homepages or recommendations. The Verge’s Tom Warren noted videos worked, but core features were unavailable for many viewers worldwide. An individual also shared the ‘something went wrong’ screen that many users complained they were getting.They added in an update at around 6:20 p.m. PT, “An issue with our recommendations system prevented videos from appearing across surfaces on YouTube (including the homepage, the YouTube app, YouTube Music and YouTube Kids). The homepage is back, but we’re still working on a full fix – more coming soon!”
In a final message, YouTube shared at 7:40 p.m. PT, “The issue with our recommendations system has been resolved and all of our platforms (YouTube.com, the YouTube app, YouTube Music, Kids, and TV) are back to normal! We really appreciate you bearing with us while we sorted this out.”
Social media on YouTube outage
Several people took to social media and the Downdetector comments section to express the problems they were facing. One person said “videos in my liked playlist work.” Another noted they were unable to login.Yet another person shared a screenshot of their YouTube page and noted “Youtube just went kaput. All I'm getting is a blank page with nothing on it. Only thing that seems to be working is the sidebar on the left. Everything else is down.”
