The ridership in Delhi metro has now edged closer to pre-covid levels.
In view of the some recent inappropriate incidents on coaches, Delhi Metro or DMRC plans to deploy police in both in uniforms and civil clothes, according to news reports. Delhi Metro also plans to scan the footage of CCTV cameras installed inside the Metro coaches more frequently to identify objectionable behaviour.

The planned steps comes after a video surfaced on social media in which a man was allegedly masturbating in a metro train. The Delhi Commission For Women has issued a notice to the city police after the video came to light and also sought an action taken report.

"A man can be seen in a viral video shamelessly masturbating in Delhi Metro. It is absolutely disgusting and sickening. The accused must be arrested and strict action should be taken in the matter. More and more such cases are coming to light in the Delhi Metro and exemplary action needs to be taken against such persons so that women's safety is ensured in the metro," DCW chief Swati Maliwal said.

The DMRC had said it will intensify the deployment of flying squads in the metro.

"We request the commuters to conduct themselves responsibly while traveling by the Metro. If the other commuters notice any objectionable behaviour, they should report immediately the matter on the DMRC Helpline detailing the corridor, station, time etc," DMRC tweeted.

DMRC had earlier said that filming Reels/Dance videos or any other such activities that may cause inconvenience to the passengers is strictly prohibited inside the Delhi Metro.

DMRC also said it will intensify the number of flying squads comprising of Metro and Security staff to monitor such behaviour in the Metro and necessary action under relevant provisions of law shall be taken.

The ridership in Delhi Metro has now edged closer to pre-covid levels. The current ridership stands at around 90 per cent of the pre-COVID level, a top official of DMRC said recently. The pre-pandemic ridership stood at 60-65 lakh, which has now reached around 50-55 lakh.
