Goyal announced Zomato will put a phone number on the bags of its delivery partners for people to call and report if any one of them were found to be speeding.
To make deliveries safer, online food delivery platform Zomato has decided to put a phone number on the bags of delivery partners that can be used to report any over speeding issue. This was announced by Zomato founder and CEO Deepinder Goyal during the company's annual general meeting (AGM) on August 30.

Goyal said safety has always been a priority for Zomato and "no compromises have been or will be made here", while also asserting that the platform does not incentivise riders to be on time.

“We do not incentivise riders to deliver an order quickly. We don’t even tell them what the estimated delivery time is. If someone is speeding, it is of their own accord,” Goyal said.

Goyal announced Zomato will put a phone number on the bags of its delivery partners for people to call and report if any one of them were found to be speeding.

In March this year, Goyal had announced that its platform will deliver food in 10 minutes soon, without compromising on food quality and delivery partner safety.

Stating that the 30-minute average delivery time is "too slow", Goyal had said that its platform will soon start delivering food in 10 minutes.

The decision had attracted a sharp reaction. Raising the issue in Parliament, Congress MP Karti Chidambaram had called the decision as absurd.

"This is absurd! It’s going to put undue pressure on the delivery personnel, who are not employees & who have no benefits or security, who have no bargaining power with @zomato. I have raised this in Parliament & have written to the Govt. Will pursue this further," he had said in a tweet.

However, to address those concerns, the food delivery giant had tried to explain how the 10-minute delivery system will work. The company explained that the 10-minute delivery process is divided into three stages - Kitchen preparation time, average distance travelled, and average time travelled.
