Yoga poses that may help support healthier hair
When it comes to hair health, most of us immediately think about shampoos, oils, supplements and complicated hair-care routines. Yoga probably isn’t the first thing that comes to mind. But some yoga practices may support overall wellbeing in ways that could indirectly benefit your hair too. Yoga may help with relaxation, physical activity and stress management, all of which are relevant when you’re thinking about overall health. Here are some simple poses you can add to your routine.

Better known as Downward-Facing Dog, this pose gets the body moving while gently stretching the back, shoulders and legs. It is sometimes included in hair-health routines because the head is positioned below the heart. Think of it as a yoga pose that supports general movement and relaxation rather than a direct hair-growth treatment.

Standing Forward Bend involves folding the upper body towards the legs and can provide a gentle stretch through the back and hamstrings. Like Downward-Facing Dog, it is sometimes promoted online as a way of improving circulation to the scalp. The more realistic benefit may be relaxation and mobility. If you enjoy the pose and it feels comfortable, it can be part of a broader yoga routine.

Child’s Pose is one of the simpler options and is often used to slow things down at the end of a yoga session. You kneel and fold forward, allowing your forehead to rest towards the mat. It may be useful if your goal is simply to unwind. Since stress can affect overall wellbeing, activities that help you relax may be worth including in your routine.

Headstand is often described as a 'hair-growth yoga pose' because it puts the head below the heart. But this is one trend worth approaching with caution. Headstands can put considerable pressure on the head, neck and shoulders, particularly when done incorrectly. If you are new to yoga, there are plenty of gentler poses that offer movement and relaxation without attempting an advanced inversion.

Can yoga actually improve hair health?
Yoga can be a useful addition to a healthy lifestyle, particularly if you enjoy it and find that it helps you stay active or manage everyday stress. But there is no strong evidence that specific yoga poses can directly increase hair growth or treat hair loss. If you are experiencing sudden, severe or persistent hair loss, it is better to look for the underlying cause rather than relying on yoga alone. Hair changes can have many possible explanations, including nutritional issues, hormonal changes, genetics and certain health conditions. A doctor or dermatologist can help work out what is going on. So, by all means, roll out the yoga mat, just don't expect it to double up as a magic hair-growth treatment. Your scalp may not know the difference between Warrior Pose and Tree Pose, but your overall wellbeing might.
