Yami Gautam, who made her Hindi film debut with the 2012 hit Vicky Donor, had her second film released in 2014 named Total Siyapaa. The film starred Yami as an NRI in London who introduces her Pakistani boyfriend to her family, played by Ali Zafar. On March 7, 2014, the film hit the theatres along with Queen, starring Kangana Ranaut. Despite having more screens at the time, Yami recommended her mother watch Queen instead of her own film as she wasn't satisfied with the end result. This decision was made after Yami heard from someone else that Queen was a great film. The day also saw the release of another Hollywood flick, 300: Rise of an Empire.

In an interview, Yami Gautam shared her experience of the release of her second film "Total Siyaapa" and how it competed with the highly anticipated "Queen" and "300: Rise of an Empire". Yami mentioned that during the marketing discussions, her team was pleased to know that their film was receiving more screens. Despite not having much knowledge about the business aspect, Yami remained quiet while others calculated the opening day numbers. Although Yami had a positive experience working on the film, she admitted that she was not satisfied with the final product.
