The Xiaomi 17 Ultra is set to be launched in China on December 25 as the top-of-the-line model in the Xiaomi 17 series, which includes the Xiaomi 17, Xiaomi 17 Pro and Xiaomi 17 Pro Max. In the days leading up to the launch, Xiaomi has revealed several details about the smartphone, confirming that it will debut with a Leica-tuned triple rear camera system. The company has also announced that the device will feature a physical zoom ring integrated around its circular camera module for tactile zoom control, and will be branded as Xiaomi 17 Ultra by Leica, with the Leica red dot logo appearing on the rear panel in at least one colour variant.

Xiaomi 17 Ultra: Camera, display and performance details

Leaks suggest the Xiaomi 17 Ultra will feature a triple rear camera setup, down from four cameras on its predecessor. The configuration is expected to include a periscope telephoto camera offering continuous optical zoom from 3x to 4.3x, reportedly based on Samsung’s HPE sensor. The main camera is said to use a customised 50MP 1-inch OmniVision sensor with optical image stabilisation, while the ultrawide camera is expected to be a 50MP unit using Samsung’s JN5 sensor. Camera features are likely to include Leica lenses, laser autofocus, a colour spectrum sensor, and support for high-resolution video recording up to 8K.

The smartphone is rumoured to sport a 6.82-inch LTPO AMOLED display with a 1440 x 3200 pixel resolution, a 120Hz refresh rate, and peak brightness of up to 3,500 nits. It is expected to be protected by Xiaomi Shield Glass 2.0 and feature HDR10+, HDR Vivid and Dolby Vision support.

Under the hood, the Xiaomi 17 Ultra is tipped to be powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chipset, paired with up to 16GB of RAM and up to 1TB of internal storage. The device is also expected to include a 6,800mAh battery with support for 100W wired charging, 80W wireless charging and reverse wireless charging. Additional leaked specifications point to an IP68-rated build, stereo speakers, an ultrasonic in-display fingerprint sensor, and support for two-way satellite communication.
