Australia has already qualified for the Final after winning the third test of Border Gavaskar Trophy in Indore and for the second position, India and Sri Lanka are contesting. If India wins the final test in Ahmedabad of the series, it qualifies for the WTC final. However, If India plays a draw or loses the match and meanwhile Sri Lanka whitewashes New Zealand in the two-test series, Sri Lanka will play against Australia.
After the Indian cricket team's loss in Indore’s Holkar Stadium, which received a poor rating for its pitch by ICC, the pitch in Ahmedabad is more suitable for batting. As a result, Australia posted 480 on the scoreboard and Usman Khawaja and Cameron Green made centuries. In response, Shubman Gill made a gritty hundred and currently India is still trailing by 191 at the end of Day 3.

Dhoni was so adamant about Rohit Sharma earning a chance to play for India that he kept one of Virender Sehwag, Sachin Tendulkar, and Gautam Gambhir on the bench to make room for Sharma in the playing XI. Dhoni's decision was derided by many and he was accused of being obstinate, but he continued to support Sharma. Meanwhile, Sri Lanka has challenged New Zealand in their home conditions by putting 302 on the scoreboard, thanks to Angelo Mathew’s century. New Zealand needs 285 to win the match which will finish Sri Lanka’s hope for a WTC qualification.
India's points percentage (PCT) will increase to 62.5 from 60.29 if they win the current Test. However, the PCT will decrease to 56.9 if they loss. If Sri Lanka wins both the Test matches against New Zealand, their PCT will rise to 61.1, which will enhance their chances of qualifying for the WTC final.
