The History of World Thinking Day
The first World Thinking Day was established in 1926 to commemorate Lord Robert Baden-Baden's birthday and Powell's, who founded the scouting movement. The purpose of the period was to allow scouts to reflect on the significance of their pledge and the global scope of their movement.
In 1932, all young people were included in the World Thinking Day celebration, and each year since then, a new theme has been used to celebrate the occasion. Even today, WAGGGS relies heavily on this fundraising element as a source of revenue. In 1999, global participants at the 30th World Conference in Dublin, Ireland, renamed Thinking Day to World Thinking Day.
