The ICC World Test Championship Final 2023 will be held between India and Australia. The match will be held at The Oval ground in London from June 7 to 11, 2023, with June 12 marked as the reserve day. While both teams have their members ready to jump in the test match post the Indian Premier League (IPL) final on May 28, there is a catch.

A controversy has erupted over the cricket balls being used in the final test match. The Oval is a familiar and neutral venue for India as well as Australia. But while Indians use the SG balls for matches back home, the Australians use the Kookaburra balls. The two teams will have to make do with playing with the Dukes ball in England.

According to the rule, for a fixture, the International Cricket Council (ICC) uses the ball of choice of the host country, which in this case is England. The UK is known to use the Dukes balls for its cricket matches, especially the finals.

What is the issue with the Dukes ball?

Playing with the Dukes ball is not easy for every team, as the ball is known to swing in the air more due to its pronounced hand-stitched seam.

The Indian captain Rohit Sharma is aware of the challenge posed by the Dukes ball, and revealed at a press conference that some Dukes balls will be sent to bowlers for practice. “Preparations will be key for us to come to the final,” he said.
