World Boxing Championships 2023: Anand Mahindra congratulates Nitu Ghanghas and Saweety Boora on winning historic gold

India's shining stars - Nikhat Zareen, Lovlina Borgohain, Nitu Ghanghas and Saweety Boora - have made it to the finals of the IBA Women's World Boxing Championship at the Indira Gandhi Sports Complex in New Delhi. Here's a look at these powerful women.

Nikhat Zareen (50kg) secured her position in the Women's World Boxing Championships final with a 5-0 win over Colombia's Ingrit Valencia. The 26-year-old will now face the two-time Asian champion Nguyen Thi Tam of Vietnam in the final on Sunday.

Zareen has got India many gold medals in the past. Some of her memorable achievements include the 2022 IBA Women's World Boxing Championships and the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games.

When Zareen isn't boxing, she spends her days being an efficient banker. She started her banking career in June 2021 when she was appointed as Bank of India's staff officer in Hyderabad.

Pugilist Lovlina Borgohain (75kg) advanced to the final of the Women's World Boxing Championship with a 4-1 win over Li Qian of China. She is all set to face the two-time Commonwealth Games medallist Caitlin Parker of Australia in the final on Sunday.

Borgohain has a rich profile of victories and accolades. She bagged bronze medals at the 2020 Olympic Games in the women's welterweight event, and both the 2018 and 2019 AIBA Women's World Boxing Championships. The 25-year-old was awarded the Arjuna Award (2020), Khel Ratna Award (2021) and Asom Sourav (2021).

The Assam Government appointed Borgohain as trainee deputy superintendent of police in 2022. She gets Rs 1 lakh per month, over and above her monthly salary, so that she can continue her boxing training.

Star pugilist Nitu Ghanghas entered the 48kg final of the Women's World Boxing Championship with a 5-2 win over Alua Balkibekova of Kazakhstan. The 22-year-old will take on the 2022 Asian Championships bronze medallist Lutsaikhan Altantsetseg of Mongolia in the final on Saturday.

Ghanghas got India its first gold at the 2022 Birmingham Commonwealth Games, beating Demie-Jade Resztan of England in the women's 48kg division. She won her maiden gold medal with a unanimous score of 5-0 in the minimumweight category.
