For many people, working from home offers the comfort of staying close to family while managing professional responsibilities from a familiar environment. But for one man, living alone and working remotely from a flat has made the experience feel very different.

Working And Sleeping In The Same Room

Virendra described how his entire day revolves around the same room. He wakes up there, starts his work by opening his laptop and eventually ends the day by sleeping in the same space.

With no change in surroundings throughout the day, he questioned what the phrase “work from home” really means in his situation. From starting work in the morning to closing his laptop in the evening, everything happens in the same room before the routine begins again the following day.

Why A Flat Doesn't Feel Like Home

According to Virendra, simply living in a flat does not necessarily create the feeling of being at home. He said that for him, home represents much more than a physical space.

He associated the feeling of home with hearing a mother's voice, having a father ask whether he has eaten and experiencing a sense of belonging once the workday is over.

Without those familiar moments, he said his current living space has gradually started feeling more like a workplace than a home.

‘Work From Flat’ Instead Of ‘Work From Home’

Virendra also compared his remote-working experience with going to an office. In his view, there is little difference between working from his flat and working from an office apart from the surroundings.

He pointed out that the main distinction is essentially the setting and even joked that there is no major difference between his room and an office, except for the size of the monitor.
