‘Women’s safety is a joke’: Woman molested by drunk men in Bengaluru, video goes viral

A 25-year-old woman was allegedly molested by four intoxicated men on the outskirts of Bengaluru on Sunday evening, police said. One of the accused has been arrested, while a viral video of the incident has triggered widespread anger on social media.

The alleged incident took place around 5 p.m. in Yellamma Layout near Mylasandra Road, Anekal taluk.

In her complaint, the woman said she was on her way to a nearby shop when she saw a group of men fighting. As she passed by, they began verbally abusing her, then allegedly touched her inappropriately despite her protests. When she resisted, they reportedly used obscene language and physically assaulted her.



In self-defence, the woman said she struck one of the men. She then contacted her gym trainer, who rushed to the spot, rescued her, and allegedly retaliated against one of the accused.

Police confirmed that one man has been arrested. However, based on a counter-complaint filed by the accused, a separate case of assault has also been registered against the woman and her gym trainer.

“We’ve registered a case under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, including 74 (assault with intent to outrage modesty), 351 (criminal intimidation), 352 (assault), and 126 (wrongful restraint),” said a senior police officer from Bannerghatta police station. “Efforts are on to apprehend the remaining accused.”

The disturbing video of the incident has gone viral online, drawing sharp criticism from users who questioned the state of women’s safety in the city.

“Women have no protection in Bengaluru. What is happening to this city?” asked one social media user.

This case comes close on the heels of another viral video, where a Rapido driver was seen slapping a young woman during an altercation.
