Women make dance video at Mahakal temple in Ujjain, minister orders probe

Two young women shot an Instagram reel purportedly on the temple premises of the Mahakal temple in Ujjain, provoking authorities into ordering an investigation.

The women combined with Bollywood music visuals of them inside the sanctum sanctorum and other premises of the Mahakal temple.

Madhya Pradesh Home Minister Narottam Mishra on Tuesday took note of the matter and ordered an investigation, ANI reported.


"I have instructed the Collector and the SP to investigate the matter. Messing with religious beliefs in any way would not be tolerated," said Mishra.

Reports said one woman shot the video while performing jalabhishek in the sanctum sanctorum of the Mahakal temple, while the other woman shot it while roaming around the temple premises.

The issue sparked a controversy with the priest of the Mahakal Temple, Mahesh Guru, demanding action against the women for the "derogatory" video.

"This type of video destroyed the sanctity of the temple. The employees of Mahakal temple were also not fulfilling their responsibility," he said.
