Woman returns after 18 days to find SUV blocking main gate, owner comes running after...; netizens question civic sense

A woman’s post on X has sparked a debate over civic sense after she alleged that a white SUV had been parked directly in front of her main gate without permission while she was away on an 18-day vacation.

According to her account, she returned home to find the vehicle occupying the space outside her gate. She said there was no contact number displayed on the car and none of the neighbours appeared to know who owned it.

What surprised her further, she claimed, was learning from her maid that the vehicle had been there since the day she left. This meant, according to the woman, that the car had remained in front of her gate for almost the entire 18-day period.

Police asked her to look for car owner

The woman said she approached the police after finding the vehicle blocking access to her main gate. However, she claimed officers initially asked her to check with neighbours and make an attempt to identify the owner.

She also said tow truck operators were unwilling to remove the car because they feared the owner could later take legal action against them.


The situation changed when police eventually arrived at the location, according to her account.

Car owner appears when police arrive

The woman claimed that shortly after the police reached the area, a man and his wife came down from the adjoining apartment and moved the vehicle.

She questioned how the owner could remain unidentified for 18 days, only to appear immediately after the police arrived.

“For 18 days, nobody knew who the car belonged to, But the moment the Police showed up, the owner magically appeared,” she wrote.

The woman argued that the incident involved more than an inconvenience caused by parking. She questioned how someone could leave a vehicle in front of another person’s main gate for such a long period without considering the impact on the resident.

‘Basic civic sense’ becomes central to debate

In her post, she said respecting another person’s space and access should be a basic part of living in a neighbourhood.

“Basic civic sense means respecting other people’s space and convenience. Someone else’s Main Gate is NOT your private parking spot,” she wrote.

The post drew support from several users, although some also raised questions about how the vehicle came to be parked there for so long.

One user described the incident as “a complete lack of civic sense” and argued that blocking someone’s gate for 18 days before appearing only when police arrived indicated that the owner knew the conduct was wrong.

Another user said, “A little common sense and consideration for others can prevent such unnecessary trouble.”

A third commenter raised a different possibility, suggesting that someone may have known the family’s travel plans in advance. Referring to the woman’s account that her maid knew about the 18-day absence, the user wrote that people should avoid revealing details about how long they will be away from home.

The commenter added, “Few People are Selfish, & opportunists…”

Users question neighbours and suggest precautions

Another user responded with a qualification, saying, “If incident is true, then neighbours intent is questionable.”

The commenter also said police may have avoided imposing a fine on the neighbours while trying to protect the complainant and suggested checking camera footage, seeking immediate legal advice regarding property-related issues and keeping relevant authorities informed.

The discussion ultimately centred on whether the alleged parking incident was simply an act of inconsideration or reflected a wider problem of respecting shared residential spaces.
