A real estate scam has surfaced in India's financial capital Mumbai in which a woman said to have duped several home buyers of a staggering Rs 1.87 crore.

As per reports, a 42-year-old woman is facing legal action as the Navi Mumbai police have filed a case against her for allegedly masquerading as a real estate agent and duping six home buyers of Rs 1.87 crore.

The accused confidently asserted herself as an agent representing a renowned real estate developer. Beginning in January 2023, she assured her victims homes in the tranquil locality of Jasai, situated in the Uran area of Navi Mumbai. These trusting individuals subsequently transferred substantial sums of money to her, as corroborated by an official statement from the Uran police station.

However, when the promised homes failed to materialize, the defrauded home buyers desperately attempted to establish contact with the alleged agent. Unfortunately, their attempts to reach her were met with radio silence, leaving them deeply perturbed. As their concerns grew, they discovered that the accused had clandestinely disappeared from Jasai, leaving a trail of anxiety and distrust in her wake.

Faced with such brazen deceit and now unable to locate the impostor, the disillusioned victims turned to the authorities and lodged a formal complaint. Subsequently, on Tuesday, the police swung into action, registering a case against the accused under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code, including 420 (cheating) and 406 (criminal breach of trust), as stated by law enforcement officials.

As this bewildering case continues to unfold, a thorough investigation is currently underway, with the authorities determined to uncover the full extent of this duplicitous scheme.
