The CCTV footage of the incident from within the house has also been posted to social media. It purportedly shows the woman's husband and her father in law attacking her, her sister, her brother and her mother. Others were also seen chipping in during the fight. The motive for the attack was dowry demands. The video shows that a young child was also in the room during the incident and is seen witnessing the violence.

A police source also said that while the husband's brother was also named in the FIR, he is still a large and attempts are underway to arrest him as well. According to the same source, further investigation into the incident is still ongoing.
The victim, who was identified as Smiti Kashyap, 36, stated that she and her husband, Vivek Kumar, 40, got married in 2018. She claims that ever since then, her husband's family has been pressuring her for dowry and property. She alleged that they would bring it up constantly and taunt her all the time.
On the day of the incident, she said that her older sister, older brother and her mother had come to the house, in order to talk to her husband and his father. In the course of the the talk, she alleges that they started attacking her brother, sister and mother.
As per her allegations, the husband, his father and his brother have all been booked under the Indian Penal Code sections 323, (voluntarily causing hurt), 506 (criminal intimidation), and 498A (harassment of women under unlawful demand).
Charges under the Dowry Prohibition Act, 1961 have also been invoked in the case, said the police source.
