Wipro: Stricter Attendance Policy in Place
On September 2, Wipro sent an email to its employees, instructing them to adhere to the new policy. The email further directed the human resources team to revoke any prior approvals for work-from-home requests. According to a report by Mint, the company’s email stated, "If there are any such approvals, please cancel such approvals with immediate effect, and suggest the teams to attend office three days a week minimum. The leaves should get deducted in system for any deviation from the above said WFO policy."An employee quoted by the publication explained, "The management will cancel a day of leave for every day missed in office. Simply put, if an employee is not physically present in office for the required three days a week, then all three days would be counted as leaves."
It has been noted that this new directive applies only to certain projects within the company and does not extend to all employees.
IT Companies Push for Office Attendance
Wipro is not alone in enforcing stricter office attendance policies. LTIMindtree recently introduced a similar policy, where employees are required to attend the office for four days a week or lose a day's leave. The policy, known as Rhythm, has been adopted to encourage a return to office culture.Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) has taken a different approach by linking employees’ variable pay to their office attendance, requiring them to work from the office five days a week. Infosys has also adopted a three-day office attendance rule, similar to Wipro’s policy.
These changes reflect the broader trend among Indian IT companies to bring employees back to the office as hybrid work arrangements evolve.
