Winter vacation 2025: Check the full list of states that have announced holidays

Winter vacation schedules across several states for the 2025–26 academic year have been announced, with each region setting dates based on weather conditions, school calendars and local advisories. Here is a state-wise breakdown.

Delhi: Vacation from January 1 to 15

The Directorate of Education, Delhi (DoE) has confirmed that winter vacation for the 2025–26 academic year will be observed from January 1 to January 15, 2026.

Haryana: Same schedule as Delhi

Haryana schools will also remain closed from January 1 to January 15, 2026.

PM Shri/Kendriya Vidyalaya schools: Ten-day vacation

PM Shri and Kendriya Vidyalaya schools will observe a 10-day winter break from December 23, 2025, to January 1, 2026.

Uttar Pradesh: Twelve-day winter break

Schools in Uttar Pradesh will remain shut from December 20 to December 31, 2025. Classes will resume in January after the New Year.

Madhya Pradesh: Winter vacation from December 23

Schools in Madhya Pradesh will begin their winter or Christmas vacation from December 23, 2025.
In the state, several government, private and centrally affiliated schools usually start winter or Christmas holidays from December 23 or 24. The break typically lasts until December 31 and, in some schools, may extend into the first week of January 2026.

Himachal Pradesh: Holidays around Christmas, winter break from late December

Schools in Himachal Pradesh will remain closed on December 24 for Christmas Eve and will observe a gazetted holiday on December 25 for Christmas Day. Winter vacation is expected to start in the last week of December, usually around December 23 or 24.

Punjab: Winter vacation from December 22 to January 10

The Punjab School Education Department has confirmed the winter vacation schedule for all public and private schools for the 2025–26 academic session, following directives from Provincial Education Minister Rana Sikandar Hayat.
Holiday dates: 22 December 2025 to 10 January 2026
Reopening date: 11 January 2026

Odisha: Christmas and winter break from December 23

Schools in Odisha, including elementary, secondary institutions and Kendriya Vidyalayas, will begin their Christmas or winter break on December 23, 2025.

Jammu and Kashmir: Extended winter shutdown

Schools in the winter zone of Jammu and Kashmir will remain closed from December 8 to December 14 due to severe cold, fog and snowfall.
Additional closures include:
