Speaking at FuelFest, a car culture festival founded by Walker’s brother Cody, Diesel revealed what he called his three conditions for signing off on the 11th and final instalment of the high-octane saga.
“Just yesterday I was with Universal Studios … The studio said to me, ‘Vin, can we please have the finale of Fast & Furious [in] April 2027?’ I said, ‘Under three conditions because I’ve been listening to my fanbase.’”
He then listed them:
- “The first is to bring the franchise back to L.A.,” Diesel said.
- “The second thing was to return to the car culture, to the street racing.”
- “The third thing was reuniting Dom and Brian O’Conner. That is what you’re going to get in the finale.”
A digital legacy and a farewell that stayed with fans
Paul Walker died in a tragic car accident on November 30, 2013, at the age of 40, while filming Fast & Furious 7. His death was a devastating blow to fans and cast alike. The film’s final scene—where Dom and Brian drive off in separate directions—became one of the most emotional farewells in modern Hollywood. In a 2015 interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Joe Letteri, the film’s VFX supervisor, explained the delicate process behind recreating Brian’s final appearance.
“Most of the CG shots had some kind of dialogue,” Letteri said. “The sound editors had to craft the vocal performance out of [existing] dialog from Paul, and we had to animate to that.”
While it’s still unclear how Brian will return, Diesel’s statement confirms that the character remains central to the heart of the franchise. For fans, the possibility of one last on-screen reunion between Dom and Brian promises an emotional finale rooted in the series’ original themes of family, loyalty, and redemption.
