"Will never play cricket again": AB De Villiers makes shocking announcement on Twitter

During a live interaction with fans, De Villiers announced that he will visit Bengaluru not to play but to thank the fans for their support. “I will go to Chinnaswamy Stadium next year. But not for playing cricket. I am going to apologize to the RCB fans for not winning the IPL title so far. I also want to thank them for their support over the past decade. I can’t play cricket anymore. Because I had surgery on my right eye," de Villiers said on Twitter.
He also revealed that we was also invited for the Legend League but he couldn't take part in the competition due to the surgery. “I am too old now. Legends League seems to be a lot of fun. I was invited, but I had an eye operation. I know you might think that I can play with one eye but I would rather not do that," de Villiers said.
He announced his retirement from international cricket in May 2018. The South Africa batter played for Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) from 2011 to 2021 before retiring from all formats of the game. The 38-year-old is the second-highest run-getter for the RCB in the history of the Indian Premier League (IPL).
Earlier, this year AB de Villiers was inducted into the RCB Hall of Fame alongside legendary West Indies batsman Chris Gayle.
He is also one of the top players in the history of IPL. He has scored 5,162 runs in 184 IPL matches at an average of 39.7 and a strike-rate of over 151. In international cricket, he played 114 Tests, 228 ODIs and 78 T20Is for South Africa scoring more than 18 thousand runs in all three formats of the game.
