The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has placed Delhi under an orange alert as the capital and the NCR region experienced heavy rain and thunderstorms throughout Monday. The city had previously been under a yellow alert, with similar conditions reported in Gurugram, Noida, Ghaziabad, and Faridabad. The ongoing weather has left parents and students concerned about the possibility of government and private schools announcing closures.

Gurgram Weather

Gurugram authorities have directed schools and offices to stay closed on Tuesday following an orange alert issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD) for heavy to very heavy rainfall. The city recorded over 100 mm of rain between 3:00 pm and 7:00 pm on Monday. The IMD’s “orange alert” for September 2 was confirmed by the Gurugram District Magistrate in a post on X (formerly Twitter).

"In view of the forecast: All corporate offices & private institutions are advised to guide employees to work from home. All schools in the district are advised to conduct online classes on 02-09-2025," it added.

Delhi Weather

Delhi-NCR was battered by heavy rainfall and gusty winds on Monday, offering brief respite from the heat but causing widespread waterlogging, traffic snarls, and flood warnings across the region. Several areas were inundated, leaving residents grappling with daily routines as short trips turned into hours-long commutes amid severe congestion. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued an orange alert and warned of moderate to heavy rain in the capital. As of now, the Delhi government has not announced any holidays in the region.

On Monday, heavy rainfall drenched nearly all of Delhi-NCR, leading to waterlogged roads and technical glitches on the Delhi Metro. Meanwhile, the Yamuna River remained above the danger mark at Loha Pul.
