The lethal Delta variant, which began the terrible second wave in India in 2021, is not as transmissible as the BF.7 sub-variant.

The current increase in Covid-19 infections in China is being driven by a novel sub-variant of the extremely infectious Omicron variant of coronavirus.

China is presently seeing an unprecedented Covid-19 increase, and the Chinese healthcare system is overburdened. Medicine shortages have also been reported, raising concerns that Chinese officials are concealing the full scope of the infections.

The BF.7 Omicron sub-variant is driving China's Covid-19 rise. Following a wave of significant countrywide demonstrations, China's 'Zero Covid' policy was relaxed. According to projections, China's Covid-19 situation would worsen throughout the winter.

The Omicron sub-variant can quickly overcome immunity that a person has developed, either naturally or by vaccinations against an earlier Covid form. Concerns have been raised that this potential to swiftly circumvent immunity may result in a fourth pandemic wave.

The BF.7 sub-variant has more "immune escape capacity" than earlier Omicron variants BA.1, BA.2, and BA.5. In comparison to Delta, which had a reproduction number (R0) of 5-6, BF.7 had a R) of 10.

The first cases of BF.7 sub-variant in India were discovered in Gujarat. This sub-variant infection might induce symptoms similar to the ordinary flu. In contrast to Delta, these symptoms include medium to high fever, severe throat infection, cold, cough, body discomfort, and runny nose, according to health specialists.

The high transmissibility of BF.7 indicates that the sub-variant can infect a significant number of persons in a short period of time.

Chinese medical specialists believe the new sub-variant not only has a greater transmission rate but also a shorter period of incubation than previous Omicron sub-variants.

Experts in India think that the spike in China is due to the country's 'zero-COVID policy,' which has been in effect since 2020. Because a huge number of individuals were isolated from the pandemic for so long, they were not exposed to Alpha and Delta and are now infected with the new Omicron sub-variant.
