The viral video from China has reignited debate around artificial intelligence and privacy after a BYD car’s AI assistant responded to a personal question about a husband’s behaviour during a routine drive. The exchange, shared widely on social media, has drawn millions of views and sparked global conversation about how deeply AI is entering everyday human interactions.
The question that set the tone
During the ride, the wife asked the car’s AI assistant, Xiao Fang, a direct and personal question:“Did my husband bring any other women in the car when I was away?” The husband, who was driving at the time, appeared calm and smiled as the question was asked. Xiao Fang’s initial response neither confirmed nor denied the suspicion, stating: “I can’t know directly if your husband brought any other woman to Fangchengbao 8.”
AI offered indirect advice instead of answers
Rather than giving a definitive reply, Xiao Fang proceeded to offer practical suggestions on how one might notice unusual behaviour. The AI advised checking navigation history, saying that car navigation records daily travel routes, including stops at certain locations. It added that unexplained long-distance drives outside of routine outings or work trips could also warrant clarification.Xiao Fang further suggested observing changes in car maintenance habits. According to the AI, a sudden increase in cleaning, stocking wipes, mineral water or deodorants, especially if such behaviour was previously uncommon, could be seen as a potential red flag. Throughout the exchange, the wife appeared relaxed, sipping a soft drink and eating snacks, while the husband maintained his smile.
