Addressing the situation, director Aditya Dhar and the film’s team issued an official statement, apologising to audiences and explaining the cause behind the cancellations. The makers clarified that the disruptions were due to last-minute technical issues that prevented timely delivery of the final content to theatres in multiple regions.
“To our dear Dhurandhar family, Dhurandhar is not just a film for us—it is something we have lived with, nurtured, and dreamed of sharing with each and every one of you,” the statement read, highlighting the team’s emotional investment in the project.
Providing an update on revised schedules, the makers said that most Hindi shows across India began running from 5 pm onwards, while Tamil and Telugu screenings were rescheduled to start from 9 pm. However, Kannada and Malayalam versions will now begin screening from tomorrow morning.
The team also assured that audiences who booked tickets for affected shows will be offered refunds or the option to watch the Hindi version with subtitles, depending on availability at their respective cinemas.
“We truly apologise for the inconvenience. Your love for this film means the world to us, and we cannot wait to share it with you,” the statement added.
Dhurandhar 2 cancellation reason
Earlier in the day, multiple theatres across Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Karnataka, and Kerala reported not receiving the film’s final content in time, leading to widespread cancellations. Exhibitors, including Broadway Cinemas, KSPS Cinemas, Rakki Cinemas, and AGS Cinemas, confirmed that several premiere shows had to be called off, while ticketing platforms removed listings for affected screenings.Even in regions where shows went ahead, some Hindi screenings reportedly faced delays of up to 40 minutes due to subtitling issues.
Despite the release-day hiccup, Dhurandhar 2: The Revenge had recorded massive advance bookings, selling over 9 lakh tickets and grossing around Rs 42.71 crore in pre-sales. However, the cancellations are estimated to have caused a loss of over Rs 2.25 crore in premiere earnings.
Starring Ranveer Singh, Sara Arjun, Arjun Rampal, R Madhavan, Sanjay Dutt, and Rakesh Bedi, the Aditya Dhar directorial had generated significant buzz ahead of release and is still expected to post a strong opening at the box office once screenings stabilise.
