Why Dhurandhar 2 shows are getting cancelled in Tamil Nadu? Theatres reply on ticket refund after Ranveer Singh's blockbuster release trouble

The pan-India release of the Ranveer Singh-starrer Dhurandhar: The Revenge hit a major logistical bottleneck on Thursday as a delay in censor certification forced the mass cancellation of regional language screenings across South India. While the Hindi version of the Aditya Dhar directorial successfully premiered to record-breaking ticketing trends, theaters in Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Kerala, and Karnataka were compelled to scrap morning and noon shows for the dubbed versions. Broadway Cinemas and other major exhibitors have initiated ticket refunds following the non-availability of certified digital content.

Dhurandhar 2 Cancellation Reason

The primary cause, according to reports, for the disruption is the delayed issuance of censor certificates for the Telugu, Tamil, Malayalam, and Kannada dubbed versions. Although the makers had scheduled a synchronized multi-language release, the regional certification process exceeded the expected timeframe, preventing theaters from screening the film on schedule. This technical holdup resulted in the cancellation of several morning shows, leading to widespread confusion among fans who had pre-booked tickets. Movie theatres like Vettri theatres has cancelled shows until tonight. Exhibitors have been forced to manually process refunds or, in some instances, replace regional slots with the Hindi version accompanied by subtitles.

Broadway Cinemas and PVR INOX Announces Refunds

In a direct update on March 19, Broadway Cinemas informed patrons via social media that Tamil shows for the day have been cancelled due to non-availability of the film content. The exhibitor stated that Hindi shows with subtitles would be scheduled in place of the cancelled Tamil screenings and confirmed that they are initiating refunds for affected ticket holders.


This pattern of cancellation was mirrored across multiple southern states where fans remained stationed at theaters awaiting updates on the regional prints. Vettri theatres has cancelled the shows for tonight and has announced Ken Karunas' Youth movie will be available for screening. The organization's proprietor has also flagged content delay from the production side to be the reason for this disturbance.

PVR INOX has also issued a statement detailing the delay which is 'beyond their control.'

The movie's production also issued a statement regarding their preview shows getting cancelled for regional language screenings.

Dhurandhar 2 Hit with Major Cuts Ahead of Release

According to TOI, it was revealed that Dhurandhar 2 has been hit with major cuts, with key scenes being removed just ahead of the theatrical release. These late-stage edits to the film’s runtime appear to have coincided with the certification hurdles currently affecting the dubbed markets. Despite these technical setbacks and the removal of specific sequences, the film continues to perform strongly in the Hindi belt, where it reportedly minted over Rs 50 crore from preview shows alone.

All Regional Versions Screening

Reports suggest that regular screenings for the regional dubbed versions may commence starting tomorrow but Cinema Chain PVR Cinemas in their latest statement has said they are still 'awaiting' on regional versions. Despite the initial delay, the star cast—which includes R. Madhavan, Sanjay Dutt, and Arjun Rampal—seem to be having a strong opening in North India.
