Why Apoorva Makhija aka 'Rebel Kid' is facing intense backlash over her PCOS claims. Here's why her deleted video has sparked outrage

Apoorva Makhija, aka the 'Rebel Kid' is under fire from netizens after she shared a video linking Lipton metabolism tablets to PCOS and hormonal conditions. In the video, she said that her doctor could have simply suggested Lipton’s metabolism boo...

In the video, Apoorva Makhija spoke about her personal experience with PCOS and a recent doctor’s consultation
Social media influencer Apoorva Makhija, popularly known as “Rebel Kid,” has landed in controversy after a now-deleted video linked a wellness product to the treatment of PCOS/PCOD, triggering widespread criticism online. Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is a problem with hormones that happens during the reproductive years. If you have PCOS, you may not have periods very often.

In the video, Apoorva Makhija spoke about her personal experience with PCOS and a recent doctor’s consultation. She shared that her doctor advised lifestyle changes such as better sleep, regular exercise, and reducing sugar and alcohol intake. However, Apoorva Makhija appeared frustrated with this advice and suggested that instead of such efforts, a simpler alternative like Lipton’s metabolism boost tablets could have been recommended.

Why is the Rebel Kid under fire

This video of Apoorva Makhija went viral in no time and did not go down well with viewers. Many users felt that the video trivialised a complex hormonal condition and promoted over-the-counter supplements as a substitute for proper medical care. PCOS and PCOD are serious health conditions that typically require sustained lifestyle changes and, in some cases, medical treatment making such claims highly sensitive.

The backlash intensified and critics argued that presenting a commercial product as an “easier” alternative to medical advice could be misleading and potentially harmful.

A paid collaboration?

Another factor that fueled the controversy was the context of brand collaborations. The product mentioned is part of a broader influencer-driven campaign by Lipton, raising questions about whether the claim was part of a promotional strategy or a personal opinion. Interestingly, other creators associated with the same campaign adopted a more cautious and responsible tone, emphasising lifestyle changes rather than quick fixes.

Doctors and influencers call her out

The video quickly drew criticism not just from viewers but also from medical professionals and fellow influencers. Several doctors took to social media to highlight that PCOS cannot be “treated” with supplements alone and warned against spreading misinformation about hormonal health. Influencers too questioned the messaging, pointing out the responsibility that comes with large followings and paid collaborations.

Following the backlash, the video was deleted. However, Apoorva Makhija is yet to issue a statement on the entire controversy.

Not new to controversies, another viral video of Apoorva Makhija from Delhi Technological University (DTU) featured her in a heated exchange of words with audience members. As some hecklers shouted at her, she was then heard saying, “100 baar aur todungi aur tu idhar aaja teri haddiyan bhi todungi. Tu idhar udhar bhaag raha tha na chup chupke.
