Who was CJ Roy? Confident Group chairman found dead in Bengaluru

CJ Roy, the founder and chairman of real estate major Confident Group, was found dead at his office in Bengaluru on Friday, according to the police.

Officials said the preliminary assessment points towards suicide, though the exact cause of death will be confirmed after the post-mortem examination.

Police sources stated that Roy sustained bullet injuries from his licensed firearm at his office near Richmond Circle, suggesting he may have shot himself. After a gunshot was heard, employees rushed to his cabin and found him lying in a pool of blood.


He was immediately shifted to a hospital, where doctors declared him brought dead.

Reports also indicate that the Income Tax Department had carried out searches at his premises earlier in the day.

Confident Group is among the well-known real estate developers in India. Roy had built a public image as an accessible entrepreneur and often spoke about his journey with young audiences through public forums and reality shows. He was also highly active on social media.

Established nearly two decades ago, the Confident Group operates as a diversified conglomerate with business interests across India, the UAE, and the US. The company has delivered several notable real estate projects in cities such as Bengaluru, Kerala, and Dubai.

Roy was also known for his philanthropic efforts, particularly in supporting underprivileged students, and for gifting high-value rewards to winners of reality television shows.
