Who is Veeramachineni Ramakrishna? Famous social media personality known for his VRK diet, booked in fake-doctor fraud case after law student hospitalized following his diet

Hyderabad police have booked social media personality Veeramachineni Ramakrishna, popularly known as VRK, and “Dr” Koteshwara Rao in an alleged fake-doctor and fraud case. The case follows a complaint by a 30-year-old law student, who alleged that he was advised to stop taking insulin and later had to be hospitalised with diabetic ketoacidosis.

Who is Veeramachineni Ramakrishna

Veeramachineni Ramakrishna Rao, popularly known as VRK, is an social-media personality who became known for promoting a diet programme popularly called the “VRK Diet”. He has presented himself as a diet and natural-health expert, particularly in content related to diabetes and other chronic illnesses.

Law student alleges VRK diet claims

As per the FIR, the complainant has been suffering from type-1 diabetes since 2018. He said he came across videos on VRK’s YouTube and Instagram accounts that claimed the VRK diet could permanently cure type-1 diabetes, cancer and kidney disease.


The complainant said he later contacted VRK and visited the VRK Health Care Centre in Raidurg in September 2025. He alleged that he was orally advised to stop taking insulin.

He further claimed that he paid around ₹26,000 for supplements and services at the centre. However, according to his complaint, the bill he received did not include GST details.

Patient hospitalised with diabetic ketoacidosis

Two days after his visit to the centre, the complainant was admitted to a private hospital, where he was treated for diabetic ketoacidosis and severe dehydration, according to the complaint.

He was discharged later that month after reportedly incurring medical expenses of around ₹58,219.

Complainant questions qualifications, registrations

The law student also raised questions about the qualifications and registrations of those allegedly providing medical advice at the health centre.

“Ramakrishna (VRK) admitted in a video that he is only a BCom graduate while Koteshwara Rao, who is a homeopathy practitioner, advised me on allopathic treatment,” the complainant stated.

The complainant has sought verification of the health centre’s registrations and permissions, including its trade licence, labour licence, DMHO provisional certificate and GST registration.

He has also sought clarity on the legal status of the supplements supplied to him.

Police invoke multiple legal provisions

Raidurgam police registered the case under Sections 318(4), relating to cheating and dishonestly inducing delivery of property; 125(a), concerning acts endangering human life or personal safety; and 61(2), relating to criminal conspiracy, under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

The FIR also invokes Section 54 of the National Medical Commission Act, which deals with practising modern medicine without being a registered practitioner.

Sections 3 and 4 of the Drugs and Magic Remedies (Objectionable Advertisements) Act, 1954, have also been included in the case. These provisions deal with advertisements making claims about curing certain diseases, including diabetes.

The complainant has also approached the consumer court seeking compensation.

HRDA secures court order against VRK

Meanwhile, the Healthcare Reforms Doctors Association (HRDA) said on Tuesday that it had obtained an order from a civil city court restraining VRK from publishing content involving unauthorised medical advice and derogatory remarks against allopathic doctors on his social-media handles in connection with the VRK diet.

“We have also approached several social-media and digital platforms, including Meta (Facebook and Instagram) and YouTube, seeking the removal or disabling of the identified content. The court has granted the relief sought by us,” said Dr Karthik Nagula, president, HRDA.
