Who is Twisha Sharma? Ex-Miss Pune and former judge’s daughter-in-law found dead in Bhopal amid dowry harassment allegations

Bhopal police are investigating the mysterious death of 33-year-old Twisha Sharma, a former Miss Pune contestant, who was found hanging at her marital home in the Katara Hills area on the night of 12 May. The case has sparked outrage after allegations of dowry harassment, domestic abuse and mental torture surfaced from her family members.

According to reports by India Today, police have registered a case against Twisha’s husband, advocate Samarth Singh, and her mother-in-law, retired district judge Giribala Singh. The FIR alleges that Twisha was subjected to continuous mental harassment and domestic violence over dowry demands.

The incident has drawn widespread attention after Twisha’s final message to her close friend Minakshi emerged online. In the message sent on Instagram shortly before her death, Twisha reportedly wrote: “I am trapped, bro. Baas tu mat phasna. Can’t talk much. I’ll call when the time is right.”


Her friend responded emotionally, saying, “I am worried about you, Tuktuk. I love you. I love you so much. I am with you.” Tragically, the call never came. The following day, Twisha was declared dead after being taken to hospital.

Twisha Sharma Married Bhopal Lawyer in December 2025

According to police officials, Twisha Sharma had married Bhopal-based lawyer Samarth Singh in December 2025 after the two met through a dating application. Her brother, Major Harshit Sharma of the Indian Army, has since accused the family of prolonged abuse and harassment.

The family alleges that Twisha faced immense pressure from her husband and in-laws over dowry-related demands and financial assets. They claimed she was repeatedly asked to transfer shares and investments worth nearly Rs 20 lakh, gifted to her by her father, to her husband’s family.

Major Harshit Sharma further alleged that his sister had been emotionally tortured during her pregnancy and was pressured into terminating it against her wishes.

“In her pregnancy, my sister wanted to continue with the child and become a mother. However, she was allegedly put under immense pressure by her husband and in-laws to undergo an abortion,” he said.

He also alleged that Twisha’s character was questioned repeatedly and that accusations were made regarding the legitimacy of the unborn child. According to the family, the mental trauma intensified after the medical termination of the pregnancy.

Twisha’s Final Phone Call Raises Questions

Twisha’s family revealed that she had spoken to her mother at around 10:05 pm on the night of the incident. During the call, she allegedly discussed the harassment she had been facing inside her matrimonial home.

According to her brother, the conversation ended abruptly after her husband entered the room.

“During the conversation, she abruptly disconnected the call after her husband came into the room,” Major Harshit Sharma said.

Concerned by the sudden disconnection, the family repeatedly attempted to contact Twisha, her husband and her mother-in-law. Initially, none of the calls were answered. Around 10 minutes later, Giribala Singh reportedly answered the phone, after which the family urged her to check on Twisha immediately.

Shortly afterwards, the family was informed that Twisha was “not breathing”. She was rushed to hospital but doctors declared her dead on arrival.

The family has questioned the delay in providing medical treatment, alleging that the hospital was located only a short distance from the residence.

Post-Mortem Report Reveals Multiple Injuries

The post-mortem examination conducted at AIIMS Bhopal has added further complexity to the investigation.

According to the autopsy findings, “death is due to antemortem hanging by ligature”. However, the report also stated that “multiple antemortem injuries (simple in nature, possible by blunt force) over other parts of the body have been noted.”

Forensic experts reportedly preserved blood and viscera samples for toxicological analysis, which ruled out intoxication. Nail clippings were also preserved for DNA examination.

The report additionally noted that the ligature material used in the hanging was not submitted to forensic experts for examination.

SIT Formed to Investigate Dowry Harassment Allegations

Amid mounting public attention, police have constituted a six-member Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe the allegations surrounding Twisha Sharma’s death.

Twisha’s family also staged a protest outside the official residence of Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav in Bhopal, demanding a fair investigation and stricter action against the accused.

The family has requested a second post-mortem examination at AIIMS Delhi, claiming that Twisha’s body remained in the AIIMS Bhopal mortuary for several days.

Her father, Navnidhi Sharma, has also demanded that legal proceedings in the case be transferred outside Madhya Pradesh to ensure impartiality.

Meanwhile, a local court has granted anticipatory bail to retired judge Giribala Singh, while the hearing on Samarth Singh’s anticipatory bail plea is scheduled for 18 May.

The case continues to remain under active investigation as authorities examine allegations of dowry harassment, domestic violence and the circumstances surrounding Twisha Sharma’s death.
