Speaking on the ‘Wide Awake Podcast,’ Booysen shared that MrBeast had travelled to South Africa with Logan Paul and Casey Neistat for a video project in Antarctica. However, the plan was cancelled after the team members got COVID-19.

She explained, “Jimmy was coming down to South Africa with Logan Paul and Casey Neistat, and they had a video they wanted to film in Antarctica,” before adding, “Everybody got COVID, so they had to cancel the video and stay in South Africa a little bit longer.”

Because of the unexpected extra time in South Africa, MrBeast ended up joining a dinner with a mutual friend, who invited Booysen to stay. Curious to meet him, she decided to join the gathering.

During the dinner, the two connected over conversations about her neuroscience studies, her book, and various other interests.

Following their first meeting, MrBeast reached out to Thea Booysen through direct messages and reportedly made plans to return to South Africa, even if it was only for a day, to spend time with her.
