Who is Kapil Dinkar? The UP cop who turned up in uniform on India's Got Latent, and walked away with ₹1 lakh prize
A Uttar Pradesh Police constable, Kapil Dinkar, surprised everyone on India's Got Talent Season 2 by appearing in uniform and with his weapon. Initially mistaken for a rule-breaker, Dinkar revealed he's an on-duty cop who moonlights as a singer, s...

A Uniform On Stage Confuses The Host
As soon as Kapil walked out in his police gear, he opened with a cheeky line aimed at the show's history of running into trouble: "Phir se shuru kar diya ye? Pichli baar chain nahi pada band karwa ke? (You guys started this again. It was not enough that this was closed last time)."Samay, clearly rattled, told him plainly that he could not wear a police uniform for a stage act, treating it as just another bit. It was only after this exchange that Kapil made it clear he wasn't playing a role, he really is a serving constable. He then moved on to perform his songs, and by the end of his act, every judge had handed him a perfect score, pushing him to the ₹1 lakh win.
Who is Kapil Dinkar?
Kapil Dinkar was recruited into the Uttar Pradesh Police in 2021, but singing has been his real calling for far longer. Joining the force, he said, was something his mother wanted for him, not a personal ambition. Describing himself on the show, he said, "I am a singer, lyricist, composer. That's what feeds my soul. And apart from that, I am a cop to pay the bills."He also claimed a rare distinction within his department, being the only constable formally allowed to pursue a singing career alongside police duty. To make room for his music, he picks night shifts on purpose, leaving his mornings free for songwriting and practice. Writing, it turns out, is another one of his pursuits: Kapil said he has already authored three books and has eight more currently in progress.
The Panel Couldn't Resist The Jokes
With a real police officer standing in front of him, Samay couldn't help but ask about crime in Uttar Pradesh and whether Kapil ever felt worried about it on the job. The constable answered without hesitation, saying he wasn't afraid at all.Fellow judge Haarsh Limbachiyaa jumped in with a joke of his own, telling Kapil, "Agar hum jurm karein to aap hi aana pakadne (If we do some crime, please you come to nab us)." Kapil shot back instantly, "Aap jurm karoge hi kyun? (Why will you commit a crime?)"
