The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has appointed 1994-batch IPS officer Anurag Kumar as the new Delhi Police Commissioner. Kumar was serving as Special Director in the Intelligence Bureau before his appointment.

According to an official order issued on Friday, Kumar will take charge as Delhi Police Commissioner from the date he assumes office and will continue in the post until further orders.

He succeeds Satish Golcha, a 1992-batch AGMUT cadre IPS officer, who has been directed to report to the Lieutenant Governor of Delhi for his next posting.


The change in leadership will take effect once Kumar formally assumes charge.

Who is Anurag Kumar?

New Delhi Police Commissioner Anurag Kumar is a 1994-batch Indian Police Service (IPS) officer of the Arunachal Pradesh-Goa-Mizoram and Union Territories (AGMUT) cadre. He has been on central deputation with the Intelligence Bureau (IB) for the past 20 years, most recently serving as Special Director.
