Tamil actor Abhirami Venkatachalam found herself at the centre of an online storm on Thursday after she called out some paid subscribers for making “cheap and unacceptable” demands. The actor, who recently launched a subscription-based page to share exclusive content, said a section of users had been asking for explicit material, prompting her to publicly draw a line.

Who is Abhirami Venkatachalam?

Chennai-born Abhirami began her career as a model and won the Miss Tamil Nadu title in 2017. She made her film debut with Nota, starring Vijay Deverakonda.

She later appeared in Nerkonda Paarvai alongside Ajith Kumar and featured in Rocketry: The Nambi Effect with R. Madhavan. Over the years, she has worked across films and digital platforms, building a steady presence.


Abhirami Venkatachalam started the subscription model

Abhirami recently adopted a paid subscription model on platforms like Instagram, offering exclusive content for ₹399 per month. At the time of writing, she has over 700 subscribers.

While such models are becoming common among celebrities and influencers, the episode has highlighted the challenges tied to audience behaviour and expectations in paid digital spaces.

Rise through television and OTT

Abhirami gained wider recognition after appearing in Bigg Boss Tamil and its spin-off Bigg Boss Ultimate, where she emerged as one of the finalists.

She has also hosted the Tamil reality show Star Wars and acted in web series such as Ctrl Alt Delete and Iru Dhruvam, expanding her reach across OTT platforms.

Her recent OTT release includes Anantha, and she is currently working on upcoming projects Nerunji and August 27.

In a sharply worded post, Abhirami thanked followers who support her work but made her position clear against inappropriate expectations. She said the subscription page was meant to showcase creative and artistic photographs, something she had not explored before.

However, she expressed surprise at the kind of messages she received and stated that anyone expecting nudity should unsubscribe. The actor underlined that she is not on the platform to fulfil such demands.

‘This is not a porn site’

Continuing her response, Abhirami asserted that no one has the right to dictate what she should post. She said her page is a space for creativity and should be respected.

She added that the platform is not meant for adult content and made it clear that only those who appreciate her work in an artistic sense are welcome. Her remarks quickly triggered a wider discussion online about the boundaries between creators and subscribers.
